Miscellaneous Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Yesterday we had a whole lotta plate lickin' going on. Part of our feast included turducken, which is a duck stuffed inside a chicken stuffed inside a turkey!

10 Foods For Better Health
Posted by: Emmy on Sunday, September 17, 2006 - 10:11 AM
Food Today I found a great page on the Top 10 Power Foods. I eat pretty well from the list, except for the berries and citrus part. I know I should eat those things but somehow just don't get around to it. How does your diet compare with these foods?

Earthquake in the Gulf of Mexico today
Posted by: Emmy on Sunday, September 10, 2006 - 12:56 PM
Earth's Garden This morning there was a 5.8 earthquake in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico. I didn't feel it, but I found a site where you can report if you do feel an earthquake. Neat!

Healthy Dining Finder
Posted by: Emmy on Wednesday, September 06, 2006 - 09:51 AM
Food In addition to eating local food, another good thing is to make healthy choices when you eat at a restaurant. The Healthy Dining Finder helps you find nearby restaurants and nutrition information. Just because a restaurant is listed doesn't mean they serve healthy food, though... the first listing in my search was Arby's! They did have a little info about the less-bad-for-you items on the menu.

Miles Per Dollar Calculator
Posted by: Emmy on Wednesday, August 30, 2006 - 09:51 AM
Green Living Here's a neat tool to calculate how many miles per dollar you get with your car. I found out it costs us around $1 to take our daily trip to the park for our walk. Not bad, considering the health benefits we gain. Using this tool may help you re-think some of the trips you might take once you see how much it's going to cost.

Don't Expect the Govmint to Save You!
Posted by: Emmy on Wednesday, August 23, 2006 - 10:14 AM
Activism Today I found a very interesting article about why we're not prepared for the next big disaster. Basically, it boils down to the fact that the response system is broken and nobody seems to be able to fix it. There are so many levels of government involved that nobody can do anything effectively. And we can't even prevent people from living in places that are especially disaster-prone. Of course, to me, it's a matter of personal responsibility... hey dumbass, if your house gets flooded every year, why not move somewhere else? Why should I have to pay extra insurance because you keep rebuilding in an unsuitable place? Oh, I could go on and on... :)

The Things We Buy
Posted by: Emmy on Monday, July 03, 2006 - 09:16 PM
Green Living Here's a collection of articles to help you make informed choices about purchases. Hopefully more people will starting thinking about how lifestyle affects our planet. The trend does seem to be going that way, thankfully. Do you think people will wake up before it's too late?

"We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children."
Posted by: Emmy on Friday, May 26, 2006 - 05:55 PM
Earth's Garden This Native American proverb says it all. Too bad our government views this planet as an inheritance to be spent and squandered for what we want today, right now, like a spoiled little brat!!! Trav and I talk a lot about what is wrong and how can we fix it...
